Re: Making small steps?

You could try checking the book and magazine section right here or check Amazon. If you have Kindle, that would be a plus. I've gotten many free downloads that give rudimentary advice to beginning prepping; on a budget.

Re: Getting started with laying hens?

We got our first from a neighbor(on the small side) and upgraded this year. My husband built the run using chicken wire and posts after first digging a trench, laying wire down and then backfilling it with dirt. Then he put a roof on it. Keeps the critters out and prevents them from digging into the...

Re: OK, I'm going to go on a little rant. Ebola

Great thread, Founderant, and timely, too. I had a bit of free time yesterday and involved myself on my local paper's forum in a discussion about this. A conservative claimed he just "didn't have the tools" to deal with this and expressed dismay that the government isn't taking care of it ...

Re: Disabled and unwelcome

Awhile back, I contacted forming survivalist type group in Arizona… They did not want anyone whose family included old / infirm / disabled. At the time, my mother (now deceased) was with us. While she was not capable of heavy labor, what she knew of gardening, taking care of animals, living without...

Re: The dark side of Facebook

Re: Disabled and unwelcome

Okay, in retrospect I find that perhaps I could have chosen my words a bit more carefully. It was probably an emotional reaction to see the entire forum taken to task because of a few PM's she may have received. That said, I probably wouldn't be welcome in many groups(although I've never expressed a...

Re: Disabled and unwelcome

Wow. Most posts are NOT viewed. They are exchanges of information then went to personal emails. Really people? OK. I see we aren't welcome here. I express my hurt and I get slammed for it. Not a good thing as far as I can see. Most posts are viewed but unless a PM is directed to us then we can't se...

Re: Disabled and unwelcome

Maybe you have. We haven't. Denying is not helping matters. Sorry you think everyone is so accommodating. Not true. As a reasonable person I cannot divulge those who have pushed us away but it has happened or I would not have made this statement. Maybe feel a bit of compassion instead eh? I don't h...

Re: Disabled and unwelcome

I am horribly disappointed, hurt and disillusioned. I felt people in general in this forum were accepting of all. I have a multiply disabled child who is wheelchair bound. He is smart, beautiful, intelligent and could probably teach some of you a few things. Yes, I am biased, he is my son. I have s...

Re: Something I don't understand?

"I guess that is the part that you do not get. You do not go from one city to another, you get out of Dodge! You go as deep into the mountains as you can get - to get away from everyone else. This is what everyone has talked about on this forum for the last 3 years, and now that it is here, you...

Re: Something I don't understand?

It doesn't make much sense to me that some of you have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to become preppers ( houses, cars, food, savings ) and yet when something happens, you wait until it's too late to leave. That does not compute. If you wait too long, you run the risk of dying, maybe with ...
