Truck APU

Postby HVACR » Mon Feb 05, 2018 6:20 pm

I am getting closer to a generator for my fall back location (BOL). Has anyone thought about a truck APU? They are designed to run long hour in a wide array of conditions. I say one that had a 6 year 6,000 hour warranty. I don't think I have seed a generator with that many hours of warranty.

Not the same, but Bolton has a unit built on a lister diesel engine, based on the old "hit and miss engine" w/a hand crank start.
Looks good, need to do a little more research on this.
Complete unit starts about 5K.
Could probably build your own cheaper, using the same idea.
Looks good for BOL, and the weight is there so I don't think it would walk off the property very easily.

I'd be questioning the availability of parts & service - it's all Chinese with a storefront in Bolton MA ...

Bolton was just a place to get an idea, I would prefer to build my own.

an honest to God old hit & miss isn't beyond reason - they turn up unrestored at fam auctions from time to time - little work and they have plenty of life left - interesting to see the old farm uses for the h & m at the farm power shows .....

DH drives truck for a big name company with newer trucks. The APU on his has let him down repeatedly. I don’t know what the issues were, but he has had it in the shop more than once.
Just saying.......
