He falsified his background. Like everything about it. Yes he did serve in the military and that was about the only thing truthful.

The pathfinder school is one of my favorite Youtube channels and I have learned so much from that mans videos. Sucks that he lied about his experience, though I still think there are very few people who know as much as that man.

I believe at the end of the day, Dave is pretty much self taught, and to market himself he made up a background. That's just my thoughts though.

That makes sense. A lot of people are unfortunately guilty of that.

This reminds me that I want to buy their cook set with that big water bottle and cup. Hopefully I will still remember that in a week when I get paid.

So true. I feel that if I had to bug out there are very few people I would want with me over Dave. That guy knows so freaking much, probably because he spends his whole life learning and teaching.

I'll miss Dave, too. He didn't have to lie about his background, his knowledge speaks for itself, IMHO. Since we live in the desert, I just LOVE Cody Lundin! He knows a lot about desert survival, and that kind of info is hard to come by. He's got the desert market covered BUT, we do wear our shoes! LOL!

Here are the facts about David Michael Canterbury. He has had a couple of aliases, but we will use the name on his military records. I have acquired a copy of his military records, through the POW Network, via the Freedom of Information Act.
Claims by Mr. Canterbury, from his own words on this site, as well his biography on Discovery and his personal site. His claims are in bold, followed by the facts as presented in his official military records.

1. Over 20 years of Combined Military and Civilian Survival: No survival training annotated in military records.
2. US Military Veteran 1981-1988: Actual dates of Service: 12/03/1981 to 11/25/1987.
3. Airborne: FALSE
4. Air Assault: FALSE
5. Ranger: FALSE
6. Sniper: Not US Army Sniper. He DID attend a local 4th ID Sniper/Counter-Sniper Class (2 wks - 1986).
7. Scout: FALSE. He only attended the Law Enforcement 95B Course. He was an MP ONLY, not a 19D Scout.
8. SRT Member: He did attend the local 4th ID Course (2 wks – 1986).

11. Squad Leader 4th ID 1982-1983: Not unless they make Privates squad leaders.
12. Instructor in Close Quarters Combat in US, Central America and Korea: See #9.

To be fair, just because its not in your military record doesn't mean it did not happen. I had to take my paperwork for my first NAM down to personal like 3 times before they finally stopped loosing it and it ended up in my record. If you ask 10 sailors you will probably hear twenty stories about lost awards, lost training documents and lost medical records. And this is in the age of modern computers and the like. I am not saying that he did not lie about some of this stuff. He probably did. Also what your listed as doing, say, ID badge Clerk, and what you actually are told to do can be very different things. As far as training and instruction, rules are rules and exceptions are made. I can think of TONS of exceptions to rules about people who are much lower ranking being put in charge of something or teaching something that is usually done by higher ranking people. Navy stuff, but still.

Actually I've always thought Dave was a horse's rear end, and he would be the last person I would want with me. Now the fact that he lied about his background, extensively so, makes me question him on all sorts of levels. At any rate I will not miss him at all from the show.

I suppose if I could pick someone, it would be Les Stroud and/or Mykel Hawke (I was actually hoping to see Hawke as the new military person on Dual Survival).

seams odd the show wouldn't check out anything before they put it on tv.I still watch Dave on youtube and have learned a lot from him. things you will never learn anywhere else. He's more about the way they use to do it and live, And if we are to survive that's the way we are going to have to learn to do it.

Thank you for posting that Hiker - I was just going to do that.

Anyone who has guts to go in front of the world and apologize - admit they made a mistake and take responsibility for it then ask for forgiveness is ok in my book. Dave regained the respect he lost from me in this video.

It probably won't stop people from feeling betrayed - I think Cody might feel that way, but it is a huge step in the right direction.

Personally I was kinda turned off by Cody's new co-star. Hope they can get it together before they cancel the show.
