Davie Bar, Front Door Security Bar

Postby DesertDweller » Tue Dec 20, 2011 6:06 am

Has anyone purchased/tested the Davie Bar for front door security? If so, can you tell me if it's worth purchasing? Aside from getting the door jamb types, I'd like to get this bar for our "current" home. Thanks in advance for anyone's opinion! :)

If your referring to the bar that props up under the doorknob yes, I had one once in a walk flat in NYC. There very popular there. Drawback of course if that it can only be used when your home, & that you need a really good solid door.
Knew a coworker who also had one for her bedroom door as she had roommates who changed bf's like panties well hopefully like panties.

Sounds like that it only secures one side of the door. How about the other end where the hinges are? Anything short of a steel door is relatively easy to overcome. A security door offers quite a bit of security for the price. As long as you are a "small potatoes" target (that is to say bad guys don't have any knowledge of anything really valuable) you will have a good deterrant with the steel door.

I was looking at this one as a temporary measure, aside from replacing the door jamb hardware or the door itself. Since we'll have to move in the near future, I didn't want to buy the B of A new door hardware :) I already bought them a nice, new water heater this year.

Couldn't agree more DD. These are also good for traveling.
I think that most people who are breaking down a door won't consider ramming it on the hinge side, at least not right away which buys you time. Time to either run. hide, or grab a weapon.

Check out the Door Devil: http://www.doordevil.com/

It fits on top of your door jamb as long as you can fit two dimes in the gap. Reinforces the jamb and the hinge side with longer screws. As long as you've got a good deadbolt it works even when you're not home.

Several choices for 'temporary' door bars http://astore.amazon.com/survurbacris-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=7 but unfortunately only work when you're home. Simple, quick to set up, some don't need tools or installation.

Keep in mind that vault doors and special hardware won’t be much help if some one can “break and rake” your windows.
