Peanut Butter Price Increase

Postby UncleJoe » Wed Oct 12, 2011 7:28 am

I read about the probability a couple months ago because of the scorching heat in the south. Looks like it has hit the stores.
We went to the store on Sunday and I just about fell over. The double packs of Jif that we've been stocking up on went from $8.65 to... $11.68. Thankfully we have 11-12 of these on the shelf so we'll ride out this storm. :D

Thankfully, higher peanut butter prices will affect only the poor and middle classes in America.

"Strong consumer demand also has helped fuel the shortage. Because traditional protein sources such as meat are more expensive, consumers since the recession have been eating more peanut butter."

You know times are bad in America when GW Bush's presidency starts looking good..

I've been doing major stocking on peanut butter. It's one of those things that goes quick in our house. I actually scored .89 cent/jar peanut butter at Amelia's, this past summer. I did not go out of that store empty handed, that day :ninja: . I had read the same this, this summer, so I ALWAYS check peanut butter prices. We've opened jars that are a couple of years old and have not had any troubles with them. -k

That's me.....stuck in between "the poor and middle class" I guess. I love peanut butter. (the kind that is just 100%peanuts....and salt)

I have some squirreled away and now I am afraid to go see what the new prices are. Probably put me right in the bowels of the "poor" category now.....haha

The thing with PB is a lot have them HFCS and sugar up the ying-yang, especially the "cheaper" ones. We love PB, but stocking is hard since like the good stuff.

Here is a prepping success story that didn't require an earthquake, EMP, or financial collapse! Great job.

I was one of them! Picked up a Jiff pack at Sam's this morning and it was $8.77. Thanks for the heads up on the price increase so I could buy it before the increase hit.

This week's Sunday paper had coupons for peanut butter at Walgreen's for $1.50 each (limit 4). Since I was getting extra papers to send coupons to my daughter in PA, I kept the Walgreens coupons, since they don't have one where she lives. Needless to say, I've been stocking up!

I buy the peanut butter that is fresh ground at Winco. It doesn't last long. I'm yet to find something affordable that does not have sugar or HFCS in it.
