In wall vertical can storage?

Postby Wylfenne » Thu Apr 18, 2013 6:27 pm

Greetings!

Does anyone know of any company that makes something similar to the "in wall, between the studs, vertical can storage" that Pharaoh's Storehouse features on their web site?

http://www.pharaohsstorehouse.com/in_wall.asp

I was finally going to do some remodeling and incorporate these behind some "secret" paneling, but when I tried to contact them to buy up a mess of them, I found they haven't been in business for a couple years... according to the company that has the phone number they list on the site, anyway... which would explain why all the emails I've sent always either bounce or go un-answered :(

I know there are a lot of plans for making your own out of wood, but that's not what I want and will not really work for what I want to do.

Thanks,
Wylf

Hey now that is pretty neat! I can pull that off in an rv, but maybe someday I can in a cabin. Cool!

Maybe a supply house for grocery stores? The canned soup or juice racks may be similar or maybe could be modified to fit your needs if you don't want to build them out of wood.

Few horizontal 2x4s blocks will let you stack all the cans you want in the wall cavity.

Abundant thank yous to everyone for the links and for trying to help.

Unfortunately that's all I have been able to dig up online as well... the plastic/wooden/metal/even cardboard "shelf sitters" and the on-wall-wooden-home-built-so-it-yourself plans.
Without going into a haneously useless, laborous speal about how come and why, they just won't work for what I need. :(

Jardude, I can see your suggestion working for me. Sometimes I forget to think simplistically with all the complex struggles I take on. Thank you. :) At least it will fit within the wall, and will save me hundreds of dollars, as I already have a lot of "scrap" wood on hand.

FYI: LOTS of TP fits in those spaces too! -k

Tp... good idea :) I can see this wanescoting/hidden panel idea might progress to many other areas of the house. :)

I have always liked the idea of using the space between finished walls (especially on inside walls - I live where you need insulation on the outer ones!)
so this idea intrigues me. I'll have to check with another prepper I know who is good with sheet metal. Those units look like they are made out of thin sheet metal, bend to specs...
Meanwhile, I'll add my 2 cents about between the studs storage....a pvc pipe capped at both ends will hold a heck of a lot and fit nicely between walls, for those things which don't stack very well - or that you want to store sealed for protection from critters. Think ammo tubes, for example (but make sure the house doesn't catch on fire!!!)

Very cool ideas. I would be careful with using outer walls, you typically have a lot of cooling and heating going on out there and could have moisture problems.

Definitely wouldn't be using outer walls! I need all the insulation they can hold! This house is old and chilly already! Brr!

Thanks, Kappydell.. that's a great idea for protecting things from critters. I hadn't considered that. I do have one very effective hunter kitty (and two lazy ones that just watch him work) and my border collie is an amazing ratter, but they don't exactly patrol inside the walls... and who knows what the future brings!
