Starting a new thread for the March 2013 Meeting. Ive copied the last post from the February meeting thread to bring you up to speed.

Next meeting March 23 2013. Location to be determined. Topic Canning hands on workshop and Possiably a HAM radio overview.

Hello all good meeting this weekend (Feb 24th). Everyone that showed up stated they learned something. To recap Barb covered the basics of canning. Tips and tricks as well as the procedures for water bath vs pressure canning. This was the overview part. Next meeting March 23 Saturday. We will have our hands on session. The location has to be confirmed but will be either Ceaserscreek or Clayton OH. Don’t worry if your new or didn’t come to the overview we will recap and have a good hands on workshop. While we wait for the canners to finish we are looking at doing a HAM radio familiarization talk.

We did brainstorm on future topics for 2013. Here is a brief non inclusive list
Range day/weapons familiarization
Food storage preservation( canning,dehydration,buckets and mylar,ect)
First aid/wilderness medicine
Wild game processing (field dressing/butchering)
Road trip to LDS cannery
Road trip to Lehmans hardware store
Bush craft (shelter, fire starting, water gathering/purification,ect)
How to develop a bug in plan or a Bug out plan
Communications (CB, HAM, FRS and GRMS)
Hunting and fishing
Hydroponics/Gardening/Heirloom seeds
we had 22 topics and I cant remember them all off the top of my head.

We also discussed changing the group name to get away from the Prepper/Survivalist reputation that the media is hanging on us. The general consensus was to go towards a Self Reliance or a Disaster Preparedness identification. This is still up in the air but the group can discuss it at the March meeting.

I am new to this site, I haven't been to any meetings but I'd really like to get involved; do I need to sign up or just show up?

Sure just show up, Were a friendly group. March 23rd details(time, place, ect) will be posted soon but the day will be a hands on canning workshop and a HAM radio talk. If you PM me your email address Ill add you to the group list. The more the merrier.

Hello all, this coming this Sunday March 24th, at 11am is our next meeting. We will be at the Ceasers Creek visitors center on the NW side of the building. We will continue on our canning topic by having our hands on session. Don't worry if you didn't get to the class room part, show up and have some fun. Due to the time it takes to warmup, cook and cool down we will start at 11 but your welcome to show up anytime. I know some will be a little late due to church, thats fine get there when you can, we have to be out of the kitchen at 4pm. We will be canning some meats for sure and what ever else Barb and Enoch come up with. It will be some good review and practical experience for everyone.

While the canners cook we will have our normal discussions about topics of interest and I will have some information on Amature Radio and communications. I am bringing a couple of radio set ups for demonstration. We will talk about why HAM radios are a good option for prepper communications as well as how they can help you everyday. As always everyone is welcome to come, we are a friendly group and enjoy meeting new folks.
