I had to put in my 2 cents and ruin it.... There are too many liability issues for a singles section that we are no where near set up to deal with. I've seen too many organizations ruined because of this. Craigslist just recently had some serious court cases that they had to deal with and they are a non-profit free service as well. But they are huge and were well funded, and even then it cost them dearly. At a minimum some things that could happen are: We start out with a singles section, great I have no problem with that, it even sounds like a good idea. But what about someone who wants a polygamy section, cant leave them out either. That's fine, with my libertarian beliefs I could care less how someone leans in their alternative lifestyles...but if you give one person a section, you've got to give it to the others too...so soon someone will want a gay section, fine, we allow that, then transgender so we allow that, pretty soon we have a huge forum of dating of all different lifestyles....That is just fine if this were a dating site, but we're a prepping site, if we go down that road of dating then people who come here to learn to prep wont even be interested. Even worse, being a free service, the spammers just love dating threads, soon we'll be moderating and deleting posts for massage parlors and Escort services. Worst case scenario we'd be dealing with stalkers, and people soliciting for underage kids...Now, I know some of you will probably say...nah that will never happen....come on guys, we're preppers...Preppers know that anything can happen. It's better to avoid something serious before it does happen. Once we open the gates for a singles/dating section it will be nearly impossible to close them. Now I'm fully willing to listen to any disagreements, but before you disagree ask yourself, would you be willing to bet on it? Would you be willing to contribute whatever costs for any future court cases that could arise from having such a section? I in no way want to be a hard (Censored word. I'm a potty mouth) and spoil the fun, but we do want to cover our rears too. If we put our heads together maybe we can come up with a more ingenious way of helping single preppers hook up with like minded people

Ok, I'll throw my two cents in as well. I'm a single woman living in an area where prepping is not even heard of. People think I'm nuts! A thread/forum for like-minded singles doesn't have to be about "hooking up". I have found that just to have someplace to go to vent where you're not judged as being nutty is a great place to be. I would seriously recommend a forum for those of us who may or may not be looking for a life-partner, but want to talk with someone who knows the challenges of doing this alone.

If we're going to go down the route of having a singles section then I'd suggest someone with some legal expertise come up with a disclaimer that will cover all the bases. Because all it takes is one bad apple to ruin it for everyone. Some people might not think about it as a place to "hook up" but if you call it "singles", "hooking up" will be the first thing on a lot of peoples mind. I would suggest calling it something else, and include in the disclaimer that topics relating to sex be strictly prohibited because like I said, spammers love singles/dating threads that are free to use. As a result, that section would have to be highly moderated,

What about a forum, Prepping For One. A place for single preppers to exchange ideas. Just a thought

That's going more in the right direction MTJoe....That keeps it from being a "dating site" and if someone takes interest in another single then they can send a PM...We would still need a disclaimer saying that it's not intended as a dating forum and that we are not responsible for their safety should they decide to "meetup" etc... etc...

I agree about the disclaimer, what about just adding that to terms of service at sign up?

We could add it there, that would also cover us for the meetup threads as well...so any thoughts that people have to what we should have for a disclaimer please post them, especially if you or anyone you know have legal expertise.

Just got for the "Prepping for One" or "Prepping for a Single Person." If they don't "get it" from that, they're what I call "single for a reason"...and a dating forum wouldn't help anyway. ;)
